About Yorkshire
Yorkshire has everything... The stunning scenery of the purple heathered Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. The historic scenery of the City of York and Bronte Country. The bustle of the citylife in South Yorkshire. Glorious beaches, rocky coves, towering cliffs on the Yorkshire Coast. Beautiful and historic scenery surrounds you......... North Yorkshire
The North York Moors are ridge upon ridge of purple heather moorland, and a sense of space and solitude.Crossing it is the steam railway with a station at Goathland, the famous 'Aidensfield' of the 'Heartbeat' TV series. Here we also haveThe Yorkshire Dales which lie astride the Pennines in the north of England in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria. There are over 20 main dales, all so different in character.
Here we have York, one time capital of the north and second city of the realm. It is one of the world's most fascinating cities with its famous Minster, meaning a centre of Christian teaching or ministering. It is, of course, also a cathedral, containing the Archbishop's 'cathedra' or throne. The first Minster was 7th century: the present one is the fourth on the site. Admission to the Minster is free.
York's City Walls at first were Roman. Substantial fragments of these still remain but it is the medieval walls, carefully maintained and restored, which now encircle the old city, almost three miles round.
West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is Bronte Country and at Haworth is the small Georgian Parsonage, home of the Bronte sisters. Now a museum, cared for by the Bronte Society, it is well worth a visit. Wander around Haworth's cobbled streets and lanes, or take a walk on the surrounding moors, and feel the atmosphere which inspired the Brontes.
At the heart of the town of Keighley shopping is the modern Airedale Shopping Centre.Leeds and Bradford are also bustling places with Leeds now firmly established as the UK's second commercial centre after London.
West Yorkshire is diversely modern and old.
East Riding of Yorkshire
Visit East Yorkshire and you will discover a different world.
Award-winning sandy beaches for endless fun with the family. Picturesque villages for a perfect pub lunch.
The Yorkshire coastal year is bright with fairs and festivals such as Scarborough Fair, Whitby Folk Festival, and Filey Edwardian Festival.
A coastline which ranges from the dramatic cliffs, lighthouses and seabirds around Flamborough Head to the weird, wonderful spindly finger of Spurn Point National Nature Reserve.
South Yorkshire
Again a complete alternative is South Yorkshire...
There is a vibrant city feel to modern centres such as Sheffield and Doncaster. There are some superb sporting facilities in Sheffield, and Doncaster's Dome and racecourse.
No matter which end of Yorkshire you visit, you will find something to make you want to come back again and again.......
